Wildwater Racing Committee Statement – International Teams

Wildwater Racing Committee Statement – International Teams

3rd July 2020

The recent statement from British Canoeing confirmed that British Athletes will not compete internationally at any more events in 2020 with 2 potential exceptions to this position, these being:

  • WWR World Cup event at La Seu D’urgell, Spain – 23rd-25th October
  • WWR Junior & U23 European Championships, Solkan, Slovenia  – 4-7th Nov

The WWRC would like to give athletes the chance to compete at these events IF CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW and within the context of the overall European situation. BC will review again in August and advise their position to us.

Selection

For the World Cup event at La Seu, athletes have already been selected.

It is not yet possible to set a confirmed selection date for the Jr/U23 as we do not know when there will be a return to racing, provisionally the weekend of 6/7th September is being considered by the committee, pending of course all the necessary risk assessments and precautions that would be required at that time. The situation is fluid and could be made more difficult by the impact of localized lockdowns that may mean not all athletes have the same opportunity to prepare for selection and International Competition.

If anyone would like any further information or discussion then feel free to contact any member of the WWRC, Simon can be contacted via Chairman@Wildwater.org.uk
