Canoeing HistoryJack of all trades, master of some?Nick first started canoeing as a kid at Basingstoke Canal Canoe Club, when he realised he was terrible at football. The canal, being a canal, was very flat so he mostly focused on flatwater racing. The club however, did dabble in a few different disciplines which is where he first cut his teeth (somewhat literally) on white water.
As a student at the University of Nottingham, Nick picked up playing canoe polo and started focusing on creeking, playboating and coaching. During this time he also joined NKC and was quickly indoctrinated into the infamous #NORMPLAN training group where he discovered you could combine being speedy and whitewater! From this point, Nick was sold on Wildwater.
Unfortunately, towards the end of his time at university Nick suffered several repeated dislocations of his shoulders. Following a brief but all round miserable trip to Augsburg in 2017, Nick was unable to paddle seriously for a few years while he put himself back together. Fortunately, after a healthy 5 shoulder operations in not so many years, Nick is now the spitting image of a naff robo-cop & back in a boat!
Nick is now focused on enjoying paddling and is on the hunt for “fast lines and fun times”.

Favourite CakeAll? But seriously, Genoa cake is the best canoeing cake. Delicious yet solid. It is very capable of surviving being banged about in the back of a boat. To this day it is the only cake I’ve successfully managed to eat on 4+ water.
