Welcome to Wildwater Canoeing

Wildwater Canoeing is a discipline of canoe racing, also known as Wildwater Racing and Whitewater Racing. The wildwater time trial is the purest of whitewater racing forms - the athlete, the river, the clock.

A racing performance is the result of physical conditioning, skill and harmony with the water - and is the only sport where social paddling is necessary to achieve a peak performance. Beautiful water, scenery and companionship make the Wild Water Racing experience compelling. The competitor is free to take whichever route on the river they desire, a freedom of racing unsurpassed in the whitewater world.

Wildwater Canoeing is governed by British Canoeing

Grandtully & Thistlebrig WWR & GB Training Event 15th-19th February 2017.

The training event and subsequent races saw excellent numbers giving our prospective international athletes for 2017 the chance to train on good quality water.

With the week behind us, much was learnt by all that attended, with the coaching team impressed by the commitment of our paddlers.

Thought now should move towards the April and June Selection events, ensuring you are prepared and in good form for what will be a close and competitive event in all classes.

Elements to consider –

  • Training volume and event preparation
  • Technical rough water refinement and competence
  • Equipment/boats – are they up to standard and legal (there will be full boat/equipment scrutiny)
  • Registration & race entry
  • What events you are looking to prioritise and attend (On ICF web site)

Help and advice can be offered on a bespoke basis through the national coaching team – contact Head Coach Paul Anderson This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

European Championships – This event will be held at Skopje, Macedonia on 11th – 14th May. The event is a non coach supported event and entry will be on a self funded nature.

Due to the short time scale following April Selection, can Athletes that wish to be considered notify Paul Anderson directly by the end of March for admin purpose. It is only those that are looking towards the Europeans I need an early notification (even if not certain).

A massive well done to all that attended this last week, and the previous national races and training events at the end of 2016. The efforts and results are noted.
