Welcome to Wildwater Canoeing

Wildwater Canoeing is a discipline of canoe racing, also known as Wildwater Racing and Whitewater Racing. The wildwater time trial is the purest of whitewater racing forms - the athlete, the river, the clock.

A racing performance is the result of physical conditioning, skill and harmony with the water - and is the only sport where social paddling is necessary to achieve a peak performance. Beautiful water, scenery and companionship make the Wild Water Racing experience compelling. The competitor is free to take whichever route on the river they desire, a freedom of racing unsurpassed in the whitewater world.

If required course changes or race cancellation will be considered and implemented.  If Gale Force 5/6 consideration to change course will be considered.  If over Gale Force 6, two options will be considered depending on weather severity and paddler safety: Option 1: The course will be changed to run closer to the start in loops. Option 2: The race will be cancelled.

YMCA Fairthorne Manor, Curdridge Southampton SO30 2GH

Picturesquely situated in 111 acres of parkland and woodland on the banks of the river Hamble, Fairthorne Manor is eight miles east of Southampton and is within two hours travel from London. Directions: From M27 J7 take the A334 signposted Botley, keeping Sainsbury’s on your left as you leave the junction roundabout. Continue on the A334 over 4 roundabouts. Continue on the road through Botley village, and past Botley Mills, still on the A334. At the top of the rise take the right turn, signposted YMCA National Centre. Continue along this road and you will see the exit drive first. At this point slow as the entrance drive is just after a blind corner on the right. The nearest train station is Botley.  You need to go through a barrier controlled gate.

NO PARKING AT BOAT SHED, PARK IN MAIN CAR PARKS AND WALK DOWN OR OFFLOAD CANOES QUICKLY AT BOAT SHED THEN GO AND PARK

PADDLERS WILLL START AT THE BOAT HOUSE IN FAIRTHORNE MANOR PADDLE UP TO THE START THE POOL NEAR THE ROAD IN BOTLEY TOWN CENTRE AND THEN RACE DOWN TO FINISH (WHERE THEY GOT IN)

NO: PADDLERS WILL BE ON THEIR OWN AND WILL NEED TO SELF RESCUE OR CALL FOR HELP FROM THE NEXT PADDLERS:

Safety cover may be needed by paddlers racing and you must ask for help or any paddler seeing another who is or may be in difficulty should render assistance if they do not they face a potential life ban from the sport.

Race paddlers must wait on until the next two paddlers have finished there must always be two paddlers at the bottom of the race acting as safety.
